Gourd scented oil bottle - affixed to be hung or worn around the neck. Grown and made by Elise Goodge. Made of gourd, hemp chord and wood. (13cm high, 5cm wide) Maori adorned themselves with scented oils after bathing and ablutions to smell nice and as a form of anointment during important times of ceremony. Scented balms were also made for this purpose. Gourd bottles fell out of favour with the introduction of glass perfume bottles.
